What is Twigs?

Twigs is a private family tree app for the family you have right now. It gives your family a zoomable tree at its own address, where every person has a living profile with photos and moments, and the whole thing stays behind a family password. It is free to start and takes about five minutes to set up.

Why we built it

Most family tree tools are built for genealogy: researching ancestors, digging through records, tracing lines back centuries. That work matters, but it serves the past. The family in your group chat, the cousins you see at reunions, the grandparents whose stories are still being written, they didn't have a place of their own.

Twigs is that place. One beautiful tree the whole family can open on a phone, where birthdays and weddings and small Tuesday moments all live next to the people they belong to.

How it works

  • One tree, one address. Your family gets an address like yourfamily.twigs.family, or your own domain. Everything lives behind a family password you share.
  • Everyone tends their own card. Relatives claim their profile with their email and a 6-digit code, no passwords to remember, and keep their own photo, details, and moments current.
  • A timeline, not a database. Weddings, moves, graduations, and blue-ribbon pies show up in one family feed, with photos and reactions from the family.
  • Start from what you have. Upload a photo or PDF of an existing tree, even a hand-drawn chart, and AI drafts the first version for you to review.
  • Memorials, kept with care. Those who have passed stay on the tree with a gentle remembrance treatment and a place for an obituary link.
  • Trees that link. When someone marries into another Twigs family, one account belongs to both trees and the same person stays linked across them.

What Twigs is not

Twigs is not a genealogy research service. There are no historical records, no DNA kits, and no shared world tree, and your family's tree is never merged into anyone else's. If deep ancestry research is what you need, tools like Ancestry and FamilySearch are excellent at it, and plenty of families use one of those for the past and Twigs for the present. Our honest comparisons cover the differences.

Our promises
